Wow

Well, it's been a long time. I've had a LOT going on, and also haven't really had a lot to comment on, thus the absence. BUT...not to toot my own horn or anything, but I nailed every pick for the NBA playoffs. Even got the number of games in the Finals right.

Damn I'm good :).

Of course tonight, at midnight, the NBA will lock the players out, and blah blah blah. Millionares are never satisfied I guess...

NBA Playoffs

A couple months back, I made known my love for college basketball, and especially the NCAA tournament.

The NBA Playoffs started a couple of weeks ago, and they've been good. While I have been really turned off of the NBA overall in the last 5 years or so, I have been pleasantly surprised at the level of play.

Why does the NBA aggravate me? Primarily because most of the players don't care, they've lost the love of basketball they had before they were getting paid to play the game. Secondly, I can't count how many times I scream at the t.v. because of sloppy play and lack of rule enforcement. Those guys travel more than Ferdinand Magellan and shoot more dumb shots than David Koresh.

Anyway, these playoffs have been full of surprises (the Grizzlies- really?). I love that the Lakers got swept,  but my biggest fear is that Miami will win the title.

I used to love LeBron James. I thought (aside from the Hummer incident) that he had always done everything right, unlike most professional athletes. While I still admire his basketball ability, his lack of loyalty combined with the way he left the Cavaliers has tarnished what admiration I had for him. So, I'm definitely hoping the Heat get beat.

My picks for the remainder of the playoffs:

East-
Miami over Boston
Chicago over Atlanta

Miami over Chicago

West-
Oklahoma City over Memphis

Dallas over Oklahoma City

Finals-
Dallas over Miami in 6 games (to get revenge for '06 meltdown)

Top 5 Video Games

I, like many from my generation, love video games. It started for me in 1993 when my parents got us a Nintendo Entertainment System along with classics such as Mario, Duck Hunt, Street Fighter, and Batman. It broke a few years later, and I didn't own another system until the Playstation One (which was called just Playstation then), which I got for Christmas in 1998. Since then, I've owned a Nintendo 64, an XBOX, a Playstation 2, and the great Playstation 3.

Figured I'd post my 5 favorite games...

#5 Rome: Total War (PC)

The only PC game on my list. This game is deep, and while improvements to later installments in the Total War series have better graphics and a few more options, R:TW grabbed one of my favorite topics (Ancient History) and threw me right into the middle of it. The Romans, the Greeks, the Seleucids...all are yours to control and make history the way you see fit.

#4 Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas (PS2)

While GTA 3 and GTA:Vice City were both fantastic, GTA:San Andreas contained so much to do! The free-roaming game play mixed with killing random people for fun was a good way to kill an hour...or eight.

#3 Fallout 3 (PS3)

I had never played the Fallout series when Fallout 3 was released in '08. And no wonder, the previous Fallout games were released in the 90's. Much like GTA: San Andreas, the game world is huge, the options are numerous, and killing a pack of Super Mutants with the Fat Man is always a blast.

#2 The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion (PS3)

Made by the same developers as Fallout, Oblivion has all the same characteristics, but no guns. Oblivion is more mythical in nature, with elves, and orcs, and trolls, etc., being the main antagonists. Probably the one game I have spent the most time playing, and I wouldn't even want to try to figure out how many hours I have put into it. Open-world and fun, I couldn't put it down.

#1 Metal Gear Solid (PS)

Oldies are always goodies, and this oldie tops my list. Released in 1998, this was the first game to really hook me in and make me realize that decent plots could be inserted into games. A great story, great game play, and top notch voice acting (Sa-nake-ah!) made this a really enjoyable game, and the experience of felling Liquid at the end off the top of Metal Gear Rex is a-one.

Honorable Mention: WWF No Mercy (N64), FIFA 11 (PS3), God of War (PS2), Spartan: Total Warrior (PS2), Syphon Filter (PS), Gran Turismo 3 A-Spec (PS2), Medieval II Total War (PC), Nascar Racing 2003 Season (PC).

Boy...

Eminem is directing some serious venom at the "industry". I'm glad to see that he's making his comeback without resorting to club bangers and same-old raps. If you haven't heard them yet, check out "Syllables", "50 Ways", and "Writer's Block." You'll see what I mean. And of course there's the greatness that is Recovery.

March Madness

So I already mentioned my love for college basketball, especially in March/April.

The Final Four begins tonight and there are two low seeds left. Unfortunately they are playing each other in the opening game, so only one of them is going to get through. I'm picking Butler over VCU simply because of Butler's experience from last year, and their struggles early this season.

In game two, I'm taking UConn over Kentucky. This pick has little to do with anything other than that I despise Kentucky and always have. Kentucky has a good team, but I think Kemba Walker and the Huskies are going to keep their streak going.

As for the title game, I'd love to pick Butler, but until a mid-major wins the championship, I have to go with the power school.

Prove me wrong Butler!

Vacation...

So I didn't make any posts for a while because I was on vacation in Indiana. I lived there for a little over 14 years and graduated high school there, so many of my lifelong friends are Hoosiers.

I got to see a lot of people which was great, and we had a blast. Here's one of my favorite pictures, taken with one of my best friends, Nathan Smith.

Not sure what I'm looking at, but Nathan seems entertained.

Also, that tasty beer I'm drinking is a Leinenkugel Sunset Wheat. EVERYONE should try it once. I'ts just like eating a blueberry Pop-Tart.

More pictures later (maybe).

March Madness

I absolutely love college basketball. I like the NBA, but I love college hoops. The kids still love the game and they aren't making money, which is the way it should stay. I understand lots of people are making money off of them, but I think it would be bad for the game to start paying players.

With that said, so far my picks are pretty destroyed. My Southeast and Southwest brackets look TERRIBLE. But I still have Kansas and Ohio State left, and I think they're locks for the Championship game.

Gotta watch out for Duke though...

A list...A gain

So I figured I'd pop in another list. This one is my top 5 movies. One day I will do an actual full list with probably 20 movies, but for now here's my 5:

#5. Troy

#4. American History X

#3. Jurassic Park

#2. Forrest Gump

#1. Boondock Saints
